3.2 In the Family Way

We're back again everybody for another edition of the Spectrum of Life! Last time Monarch officially took over as heir and kicked off the Orange Explorer Generation. We start today with Garfield showing some love/ownership of Oriole. He did rescue her from Death and all, I suppose he's entitled.

Dakota is continuing to move up the ranks of the military career. I believe he's a Flight Officer or something similar in this shot.

BEE - You have fun, boys! Be careful in those tombs, don't talk to strangers and take lots of pictures!

MONARCH - Mom, really? I'm not five . . .

As Bumble Bee heads off to work as the Star News Anchor, Monarch and Norris prepare to head off on their romantic get away to Champs Les Sims, France! Monarch has decided to take his fiance with him on his very first trip, because . . . reasons. :P

The boys arrive safe and sound in Champs.

Monarch wastes no time checking out the adventure board, picking up his very first adventure. Relics and Visa Points here we come!

GUY - So, I lost something in a tomb. I need you to find it. You are okay wiz zis, oui?

MONARCH - So long as you pay me, sure.

GUY - Excellent! You will want to purchase supplies at zhe General Store at zhe market. You must always be prepared!

MONARCH - Yeah, yeah. I was in the Scouts as a kid, I know the drill.

Monarch's next stop was indeed the General Store, but the clerk was apparently late for work . . . .

And then, this.

MONARCH - Oh, I see how it is. You hire people to go on 'adventures' for you, and oh so conveniently run the only Supplies store in town . . . Crafty, very crafty. I tip my hat to you, sir.

GUY - I have no idea what you are speaking of.

Monarch was crafty himself, and snuck off to France with his mother's Motive Mobile. Which means he won't need to bother with such silly things like sleep and eating while he gets his adventuring groove on.

Being as it's his first time tomb-delving, Norris goes with him. As you can see from the swirling hearts, the outing has been turned into a date. Only Monarch would consider roaming around underground sifting through ancient junk and possible dead bodies as a romantic undertaking.

Norris looks on as Monarch displays his awesome adventuring skillz by uncovering a not-so-subtle secret door.

He also lent a hand to the exploration when he was able.

And at other times he sat and marveled in Monarch's greatness.

NORRIS - He's so handsome and talented. *dreamy sigh*

MONARCH - Wait, why are there foot prints on this tile? I'm confused.

The boys were eventually successful in retrieving the shop-keeper guy's 'treasure,' which--SPOILER ALERT--is a friggin baseball.

MONARCH - So here's your baseball, you weird loser. Also, why's it so dark out here? Can you not afford outdoor lights? Blew all your money on hiring adventures to go find your lost sporting goods equipment, did you?

GUY - Do you want your money or not, smart-ass?

MONARCH - Of course I want my money, cough it up!

While Monarch continued his adventuring over the next couple of days, Norris stayed behind at base camp and enjoyed some rousing games of chess against . . . no one in particular. Still, no time like the present to work on those skills!

MONARCH - AAAAAH Getitofgetitoffgetitoff!

MONARCH - OMP, did you see that? I almost DIED.

Not quite, drama queen. In the first tomb he had Brave Norris stick his hands in the dark, mysterious holes. Now he has to do it himself.

As well as investigate sarcophagi. I'd never seen a sim randomly get yanked in and beat the crap out of before.

But there's apparently a first time for everything. Poor guy.

On the third day Monarch took a break from adventuring and spent some time with Norris. The latter had a wish to visit an art museum, so they went to this monster. There wasn't really anything to do there, so they didn't stick around though.

They went to a nectary instead, and once they'd arrived Norris went STRAIGHT for the nectar.

NORRIS - I'm gonna drink my feelings.

After more than one complimentary glass of nectar, Norris was ready for ill-advised, fully-clothed dives into mysterious pools of water. Happy to report he didn't drown. He actually found a fairly expensive bottle of nectar, so win!

Meanwhile Monarch had a wish to make some nectar of his own, so he harvested some grapes and then got to stomping. He . . . fell a lot.

MONARCH - I have grapes in places there SHOULD NOT BE GRAPES!

His first--and only--bottle of nectar was of decent quality though, so win again!

As night approached, Monarch had one last surprise in store for Norris, driving them to this small, out of the way lot on the edge of the countryside.

(Made by XKidsInLoveX, found here )

Monarch led Norris around back, and the purpose of this quaint little place was made apparent by the presence of a wedding arch.

MONARCH - Since we've suddenly changed into our formal-wear, I've decided that it's time for us to get married! There's no place more romantic to get married than France after all!

Norris was of the same opinion. And so, with a couple paparazzi as witnesses, Monarch and Norris were married at night in the French countryside.

Ah, true luv!

Monarch is quite smitten with his new hubby, and vice-versa.

MONARCH - Ho! What is this I spy! Music? A dance floor? This can only mean one thing!

NORRIS - And what's that?

MONARCH - Slow dancinggggggg! :D

So precious.

I love the slow-dancing animations, soooooo glad they put that interaction back in with Seasons.

I was expecting clumsy Monarch to be the first to step on a foot, but surprisingly it was the other way around. Luckily Monarch didn't care much, and went right back to snuggling.

A few hours later, the boys retired back to Base Camp to enjoy their first night as a married couple.

And there was MUCH enjoyment to be had. Along with a baby lullaby! Woot-woot!

MONARCH - Excellent! My plans to rob this country blind of all their valuables is coming along swimmingly!

It was, actually. All told, he made about 20k in simoleons in just one trip. He also reached Level 2 Visa for France in only 4 days, so I don't forsee his LTW being hard to achieve at all. Given that there was now a bun in the oven, I cut the trip short and sent the boys back home.

They had left an hour before Norris needed to be at work, so he had to leave for that as soon as they got home. Luckily all of his motives were filled from riding in the MM, so it was okay. As much as he enjoyed adventuring, Monarch is happy to be back home at his Evil Lair.

Townfolk were happy to have him back too, apparently. This paper boy was quite smitten.

Later that evening . . .

What's up with the stink-face, Monarch?

MONARCH - Something . . . is amiss. I can't quite put my finger on it . . .

MONARCH - Not that it matters much. I can withstand any danger, defeat any foe! Nothing can break my will to succeed--.

MONARCH - Oh HOLY PLUMBOBS what is this! My tummy is rebelling!

What was that about nothing being able to stop you? Cause I think morning sickness just put on the brakes.

MONARCH - Urk!

And then shifted things into full reverse. Monarch has been elected to be the baby-incubator of the couple, since he doesn't have a scheduled job to go to like Norris.

While he's on 'maternity' leave, it gives him plenty of time to work on his Photography skill. He's zooming right along in it, too. It won't take him long to have it maxed.

The next morning Monarch officially pops, much to Norris' adoring joy. Dakota is busy upgrading, which is what he does with most of his time nowadays.

Since Monarch and Norris both had wishes to have a boy, Monarch got sent to the family grocery store to pick up a couple apples.

Back home, Dakota had to pause in his upgrade of the dishwasher to have his birthday!

He successfully transitioned into an elder, even if he isn't terribly thrilled about it.

DAKOTA - MY ASS!

What about it?

DAKOTA - It ran away. D:

The next day Monarch was sent to the Summer Festival to take pictures, and ran across a VERY pregnant Pumpkin.

MONARCH - I see your developing fetus, dear sister, and raise you one of my own!

PUMPKIN - . . . wat?

MONARCH - I'm having a baby too!

PUMPKIN - Oh! Well congrats. Now can you get out of my way, that pile of hot dogs over there has my name on it.

We also spotted April at the festival. Sadly, she and Apricot have broken up with each other. I found it a little odd, since I'd only gotten positive relationship pop-ups about them and none of Apricot cheating or flirting with anyone else. Oh well. :(

Pumpkin wasn't kidding about those hot dogs. She lured April and a couple other townies over to the table and started a contest.

One she never got a chance to start, as her baby decided that it would rather be born right then.

PUMPKIN - This pain! It is unimaginable!

MONARCH - What?! Pumpkin, why would you tell me something like that?! Now I'm going to have a birth compleeeeeex!

OTHER TOWNIES - *also freaking out*

APRIL - Sooo . . . is anybody gonna take her to the hospital or what?

I volunteered Monarch for that task.

Somehow that translated to him riding shot-gun while she drove them to the hospital.

There were a few townies hanging around outside and also went into freakout mode as Pumpkin and Monarch headed inside.

Moments later Pumpkin emerged with her and Mitch's first-born son, who they I named Cardinal. (Which was originally the name of one of their cousins, but Cardinal and Blue-Jay got left behind in the other save file, so I saw no reason not to recycle the name. :P )

While this was going on, Oriole as back home finishing off what would be her very last serving of key lime pie.

ORIOLE - Sparkles? Oh yeah, I remember what this means . . . .

ORIOLE - Yep, see-through.

Because of moving save-files and the placement of days off, she never even got one promotion at her cooking job. Oh well.

Having gone through this whole song and dance once before, Oriole was fine with shaking hands with Grim and moving on. I made sure to keep Garfield occupied for the duration. Despite Bumble Bee and Dakota's heartbreak, Oriole (finally) passed away.

Oriole Bird-Spectrum was 108 days old at the time of her passing. The spouse of the founding (White) generation, in her lifetime she had two children, successfully reached the top of the Criminal-Thief branch and her Kleptomaniac trait single-handedly paid for most of the renovations to the original house. Goodbye Oriole, you'll be sorely missed.

Some spare updates before we go. Spongy and Talia's eldest son Squidward has reached teenhood. Looks like he's inherited his mother's somewhat chinless face shape, unfortunately. He's still got time though, maybe he'll grow more into it.

Sponge and Talia's second son Krabby has reached his childhood, and at the moment it looks like he's taking more after daddy.

Welp, that's it for this chapter. Join us next time for the birth of Generation (Red) Four! Until then, happy simming!
